Back in the old days, the temperature of a home was very similar to the temperature of the outdoors. Temperature regulated climates only came into existence within the last century which means that homeowners now have the luxury of regulating the temperature in their homes. While that is a luxury, it does come with a price. It can be expensive to heat homes in the winter and cool them in the summer. So the question is what is the best temperature to keep a house at all times?
There are several factors that play into this question. First, it is important to note the different possible meanings behind the question. The best temperature for one’s physical pleasure may not keep in line with the best temperature for one’s wallet. It costs more to keep homes cooler in the summer and it costs more to keep homes warmer in the winter. Also, the best temperature for an adult may not be the same as the best temperature for a baby. Adults can handle more extremes in temperature far better than little children. Children tend to have weaker immune systems which mean their fragile bodies need things to be kept a few degrees warmer in both the winter and the summertime.
If one is looking at the dilemma of the house temperature from the standpoint of the wallet, it’s probably best to keep the thermostat set at 78 in the summer and between 68-70 in the winter. It’s always easier to wear more clothes and get warm than to figure out how to cool off. Something to keep in mind besides the wallet is the health factors. Many people believe that if they feel comfortable, it’s the most ‘healthy’ temperature. This in fact is not true. It has been said that keeping a temperature of 68 degrees Fahrenheit is the best temperature from the healthy point of view. This makes the body work a little bit to keep itself warm.
It is interesting to note the many schools of thought on the matter. Even still, many homeowners are unable to keep homes at the temperatures they want because they are in need of AC repair or heating repair. It is important to keep the air conditioner and heater in good repair in order to keep the home at a reasonable temperature. No matter what temperature is set on the air conditioning and heating units in the home, just make sure they are set to whatever standards make the most sense for the family as a whole.
